River Walk

The River Walk weaves around the heart of downtown San Antonio. The river is lined with restaurants, bars, family entertainment, and boat tours. We recommend doing a boat tour above everything (with a frozen cocktail in hand, of course!).

Schlitterbahn

Schlitterbahn Waterpark is one of our favorite ways to spend a day in the sun! Great for families who want to kick up their feet instead of walking around for the day.

Six Flags Fiesta

If you and your family are into theme parks, Six Flags Fiesta is the pinnacle in San Antonio. The Superman is the main attraction ride to the park, but make sure you do not go on a windy day if you want to ride.

Natural Bridge Caverns

Our home sits 5 miles south of the Natural Bridge Caverns the way the bat flies. Did I say bats?! Yes, this site sits next to the Bracken Bat Cave, the largest colony of bats anywhere in the world. From March to October, you will even see them fly over the house during dusk hours. As for the Caverns, we recommend you take the Hidden Passages tour to see the various stalactite formations up close.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch

Next to the Caverns is a wildlife preserve. You can take a drive-thru safari tour and the animals will visit you at your window as you drive. Kids love this activity and you can do it at your own pace (1-3 hours).

Gruene Hall is Texas' oldest dance hall built in 1878. Famous for hosting small concerts with big country music names. The venue sits in the middle of an old western style town that has various restaurants and stores. It's a great area to walk around for a more relaxing type of day.

The Quadrangle at Fort Sam Houston

If you are a military history buff, you will want to visit the historic Quadrangle located at Fort Sam Houston. You do not need to be a service member to tour the grounds. Home to the joint force land component Army North, you can read up on the history of the U.S. military in Texas while in the midst of wildlife, most notably the peacocks.

The Historic Pearl

If you are looking to avoid going downtown to the Riverwalk for eating, The Pearl is a former brewery that operated from 1883 to 2001. The area was revitalized and now features gourmet restaurants. At the heart of the property, you can hang out under trees and run through a splash pad while having a frosty drink in hand.

San Antonio Missions National Historic Park

San Antonio is most famous for The Alamo. However, The Alamo Mission is the last mission to be built along the National Historic Park trail. You will want to start at the first mission constructed in Texas in 1690, Mission Espada. You can either drive along the road or ride a bicycle on the trail that heads up river toward downtown. There are 5 Missions on the trail, with The Alamo being the last location. Depending how long you walk the grounds at each location, you can do this self-guided tour as short as 2 hours and as long as 6 hours.
